The current buildings of the Hollohaza Porcelain Manufactory Co., Ltd. are located in the very same place where once in 1777 glass works were founded. A characteristic of this glass-works era, which otherwise succeeded in satisfying the needs of those days, was that the obligatory uniform design produced primitive and yet beautiful glasses, bottles and glassware. From 1831, the production of stoneware was introduced in Hollohaza. Its market was Eastern-Hungary and northern-Hungary, and its product range met the rural and, later on, the more and more civic population's need for everyday tableware. Although the products were made in a factory, still they were true folkloristic ones: the precious lore of shaping and decoration was passed from father to son, from hand to hand. The art of decoration and the decorative pieces appeared with the dawn of the 20th century - the fist written document about the shapes and ornaments used by the pottery dates back to 1903. The stoneware-era ended in 1948. After the nationalization, the raw materials and the technology of firing were changed in order to adapt it to the production of porcelain - the fist products were the low-voltage porcelain insulators needed for the electrification of the country. After a couple of years of industrial porcelain, Hollohaza changed to produce household porcelain, including tableware and decorative items in 1957. Fortunately, the production of insulators, which was not in the least demanding considering the aesthetic and technical aspects, lasted only a short while and thus the workers skills and sense of beauty which the acquired during the stoneware era remained unscathed and appeared again in the production of porcelain. Since the beginning of the 60's qualified and gifted designers took over the job of developing the range of products, and have been contributing to the efforts of turning Hollohaza into one major workshop of the Hungarian porcelain art. The technology, the raw materials, the quality of products complies with the European quality level of hard-porcelain of feldspar-base. Different awards and the satisfaction of our customers prove the success of the range of products and design.
